fb0 error |

It looks like fb0 won't be back up tonight. I think the error we are getting is related to an invalid inetrd file, which needs to be reconstructed using a CentOS 5.3 install/rescue disk. Unfortunately, there don't appear to be any 5.3 liveCDs floating around the lab or on the internet (which I find somewhat odd), so we will have to wait until Alex is in and ask him. I tried to rebuild the inetrd with a generic linux rescue disk, but wasn't able to (I couldn't chroot properly because the architecture of the disk and the system were different, and without being chroot'ed, I couldn't figure out how to make mkinetrd run). bad RAM can sometimes cause a kernel panic, but I memtested and all the tests passed, so this is probably OK.
One odd thing is that I cannot boot the system to an ubuntu live cd. The splash screen comes up, but when I try to select the interactive environment it stalls. I will try it one more time, but this might also be a clue to what our problem is. |
