Another (simple) thing I did last week when I looked at ADev vs PSD was try to take the Allan Dev's from a couple papers and make them into PSD levels.

  1. Used papers by Long-Shen Ma and Schnatz
  2. Looked at Allan Dev slope (1/tau for Schnatz, ~1/tau^2/3 or something for LS Ma)
  3. Tried to find what phase noise level would give said Allan deviations
  4. Since the 1/tau slope in the Schnatz ADev corresponds to white phase noise the bandwidth you assume for measurement is important
    • Made a plot of all the different white phase noise levels (including bandwidth) which could give this Allan Deviation
    • Tried to guess what the relevant limiting bandwidth for this was - I think it's the data acquisition thing they have in their schematic, but am unsure of its bandwidth (more info is avail)
  5. Slope in LS Ma paper didn't correspond to any known phase noise slopes (according to chart found on Wikipedia, which I believe), tried 1/f^0.5, but this yielded no Allan Dev with the right shape

If I assume that the Allan Dev presented is continuous between the points presented, then I think there is a way to grab the PSD out of this, but that would take some serious thinking time, so I will ignore it for now
