josephb | Bureaucracy | Computers | Larry stopped by - GC machine had conflicting IP | Larry stopped by today and had to disconnect the m25 machine (this is the 1st GC machine on the left as you walk into the control room) because its IP was conflicting with a machine over in Downs. Do not use 131.215.115.125 as the IP on this machine as this is already assigned to someone else. They couldn't figure out the root password to change it which is why it is not currently plugged into the network, and is not to be until an appropriate IP is assigned.
They've asked that whoever set the machine up to please contact them (extension 2974). |

Jamie | Bureaucracy | CDS | !!!!REMEMBER TO COMMIT YOUR MODIFICATIONS!!!! | Whenever you modify any of the front-end code in /opt/rtds/caltech/c1/userapps, such as models, scripts or medm screens, REMEMBER TO COMMIT YOUR CHANGES, WITH A LOG MESSAGE!!!
cd /opt/rtcds/caltech/c1/userapps/trunk
svn commit path/to/modified/file
If you forget to commit things, they may be purged and you will loose your work. ALWAYS COMMIT!
Things to note and watch out for:
- When you commit, make sure you specify explicitly the path to the file that you are committing. This repository is shared by all LIGO sites, including the sites (LHO and LLO) so you really want to make sure you're not committing anything that affects anything other than "c1" (ie. the 40m)
- Only commit one file at a time, unless the changes to multiple files are tightly coupled.
- Never commit without specifying the path to the file that you are committing. Other people may be working on other files in the repository, and you don't want to commit their work with yours.
- YOU MUST LEAVE A LOG MESSAGE. Your log message should be specific to the file you have modified, and should be clear and verbose to explain exactly what you have done.
- Use the "svn status" command to give you an overview of what is going on in the working directory. This will tell you which files have been modified. See "svn help status" for more information.
If you have questions ASK. Don't force things. |

Koji | Bureaucracy | Environment | Clean up your mess | Mess in the lab is increasing. Kiwamu and I had to clean up some stuffs to continue our work.
(i.e. some components were disturbing to open the lid of the tables.)
Basically the tools/equipments/component/cables/digital cameras/lens caps/IR viewers
you have used for the day should be cleaned up at the end of the day.
If one likes to leave a temporary stuff, leave a note to indicate by whom, for what, how long
it will be kept like that, and when one is going to back there with contact info like the cell phone #. |

Jenne | Bureaucracy | SAFETY | 40m SOS supplies moved off of cleanroom flow bench | Bob, Callum and Daphen noted that our keeping a JDSU HeNe (max power <4mW) is against somebody's SOP. So I cleared everything that relates to 40m SOS suspending to the bottom shelf of the 2nd cabinet in the cleanroom (the back set of cabinets nearest the flow benches). The door has a nifty label. Things that are in there include:
HeNe
HeNe mount
QPD and micrometer mount
microscope and micrometer mount
iris
Al beam block
Magnet gluing fixture
dumbbell gluing fixture
The electronics that we use (HeNe's power supply, 'scope, QPD readout) are still on the roll-y thing under the flow bench. |

Koji | Bureaucracy | General | Interferometer check-up session | From 2PM, Jenne/Den/Koji. Finished at 10:30PM
- General
- More LCD screens! Wider screens!
- Allegra - only can handle single head right now, but should prepare for the eventual upgrade of that videocard/whole computer and get 2 monitors.
- Every workstation should have 2 24" monitors. We currently have 2 good ones (one on Rossa, one on Pianosa), so we need 6.
- Remove Control room shelf currently holding OSA 'scopes
- Adjust both TV shelves so that they're at the same height, ~6" higher than the current left shelf.
This gives space for stacking the 24" monitors for each computer.
- Audio system for the signals!!!! Even a crappy one!
/cvs/cds/ligo/centos5.5/cds/project/gds-2.14.2/Monitors/rockIFO
/cvs/cds/gds/gds/Monitors/rockIFO
(really /cvs/cds, not /opt)
- IOO
- PZT or Picomotor mounts for PSL/ALS beams
- ALS on the both arm simultaneously / common/diff ALS scripts
- SUS
PRM OPLEV servos are sometimes not stable. (fixed, JCD/DM/KA, 5/2/2012)
- ETMX oplev - replace 1064nm lens with 632nm lens (KBC037, -100)
- IFO
- It seems that there is an occasional common-mode power transient in the arm transmissions.
-> Track down the cause and fix.
- Fix arm ASS even on CentOS
- Drift of the green incident axis -> Assess the amount of the drift / replace the mount
- Calibration of POP22 / AS110
- PMC/IMC/ARM characterization (loss, finesse, reflectivity, etc)
- CDS
- Capture OSA signals in CDS (the 'scope TDS1001B has a USB port in the back for connecting to the computer)
- Transmon (arms) for high and low power
- POX11 whitening is not toggling the analog whitening???
- CentOS machines cannot open simulink models properly (get "Bad Link"s everywhere, so you can't do anything useful).
- Dataviewer and DTT can't connect to framebuilder from CentIOS machines
- Electronics
- Actuator noise level characterization (coil driver response in V/m & coil driver noise level V/rtHz)
- Beat box
- I/Q DFD
- Improvement of POP22/110/AS110 RF circuits.
- MEDM
OL alert in the watch dog screen (this is awesome!) should have small text saying "OL" (done, JCD, 5May2012)
- Complete 40m overview screen - everything should be clickable with pseudo 3D icons
- BETTER SUSPENSION SCREEN!!!
- Script to generate a MEDM tree
- Resurrect MEDM snapshots
The LSC screen has some "white" boxes -> investigate and fix them (done, KA, 5/2/2012)
Make the LSC control screen (compact) in the vertical arrangement (done, KA, 5/2/2012)
The signals of the watch dog screen should go red if any of the WDs are not enabled.
=>Copy the logic of the signals in LSC screen. (done, KA, 5/2/2012)
Remove c1gfd from the cds status screen (done, KA, 5/2/2012)
Add "BURT" status indicators on the cds status screen (done, KA, 5/2/2012)
- SCRIPT
- Locking scripts with integrator triggers / disabling when unlocked
- Daily diagnosis of the MC spot positions (there must be something already...)
- Daily/occasional adjustment of the incident axis on the MC
Suspension "misalign/restore" script is too wild => make a new script (Done, JCD, 7May2012)
- IFO_CONFIGURE scripts still do a burt restore, so step the optics. Need to remove optic alignment from config .snap files, use reg restore script instead.
- OPLEV/OSEM trending script before the IFO work for diagnosis.
- Auto-locker for PMC/Arm/etc
- Video
- If each video screen has a caption, that would be great
- GUI interface of "videoswitch" Mike!
- Mouse Jiggler for Zita (called Swinput?)
- Ubuntu
burttoday is not aliased in ubuntu. burttoday: aliased to cd /opt/rtcds/caltech/c1/burt/autoburt/today/

[Koji, Suresh]
We tried to locate the sixteen analog output channels we need to control the four tip-tilts (four coils on each). We have only 8 available channels on the C1SUS machine.
So we will have to plug-in a new DAC output card on one of the machines and it would be logical to do that on the C1IOO machine as the active tip-tilts are conceptually part of the IOO sub-system. We have to procure this card if we do not already have it. We have to make an interface between this card output and a front panel on the 1X2 rack. We may have to move some of the sub-racks on the 1X2 rack to accommodate this front panel.
We checked out the availability of cards (De-whitening, Anti-imaging, SOS coil drivers) yesterday. In summary: we have all the cards we need (and some spares too). As the De-whitening and Anti-imaging cards each have 8 channels, we need only two of each to address the sixteen channels. And we need four of the SOS coil drivers, one for each tip-tilt. There are 9 slots available on the C1IOO satellite expansion chassis (1X1 rack), where these eight cards could be accommodated.
There are two 25 pin feed-thoughs, where the PZT drive signals currently enter the BS chamber. We will have to route the SOS coil driver outputs to these two feed-throughs.
Inside the BS chamber, there are cables which carry the PZT signals from the chamber wall to the the table top, where they are anchored to a post (L- bracket). We need a 25-pin-to-25-pin cable (~2m length) to go from the post to the tip-tilt (one for each tip-tilt). And then, of course, we need quadrapus cables (requested from Rich) which fit inside each tip-tilt to go to the BOSEMs.
I am summarising it all here to give an overview of the work involved.

yuta | Bureaucracy | Locking | vent for PRC check, TOMORROW! | Koji, Jamie and I talked together and I decided to VENT TOMORROW MORNING. Main purpose of this vent is to see if PRM is flipped or not.
Vent schedule:
June 28 (Thu)
Prepare for the vent tonight
June 29 (Fri)
Start vent in the morning
Look into PRC in the evening. If PRM was flipped, we will correct them. We'll use REFL to align the PRM. If PRM was not flipped, look into PR2,PR3 and other related optics.
June 30 (Sat)
July 1 (Sun)
Thinking time. I can work if needed.
July 2 (Mon)
If we need something else to do, do it.
If not, start pumping.
July 4th is the Independence Day. So, I need IFO working before July 4th.
Check List:
We will just open the BS chamber.
- PRM flipping
- PR2, PR3 flipping
- PRC suspensions
- Cipping check in PRC |

What do you mean by PR2, PR3 flipping? They are (supposed to be) flat mirrors, so obviously they should be installed correctly, but they won't change the mode matching in a huge way if they're backwards, right?
For the PRM, I recommend checking (a) the arrow inscribed on the thinner side of the optic and (b) that the arrow *actually* points to the HR side. I'm pretty sure I installed all the optics with the arrow pointing away from the OSEMs, but I never did a thorough check that the arrow always actually pointed to the HR coated side. I don't remember any optics where I said "hmmm, that's funny, the arrow is pointing backwards", but nor did I write down that I had checked.
Also, hopefully the PRM is correct. If however it's not, that means that all of the magnets are glued onto the HR side, and we'll have to redo all of the magnet gluing. The guiderods should be fine, but all 6 magnets would need redoing. If we were very, very careful and didn't break any of the magnets off of the dumbbells, it's a 24 hour turnaround due to drying time. Since inevitably we break magnets away from dumbbells, conservatively we should think about a 48 hour turnaround. |

|
We see some ghost beam spots at POP. This may come from the back of PR2 and PR3. Also, they may change mode matching because of thermal lensing, mirror deformation, and other unexpected reasons. I thought we should check every mirrors in PRC, if PRM is not flipped.
We are going to check PRM just because we spent so much time for the PRC problem, and still don't have the solution or evidence.
PRM flipping is kind of the only idea for the root of all evil -- terrible beam shape, low PR gain, unstable PRMI lock.
So, I want to check with my eye during the stay.
I don't think we have to redo magnet gluing. It's okay to leave them on HR side. |

yuta | Bureaucracy | Locking | PRC commissioning plan | Issues in PRC:
1. Power recycling gain is too low (~ 15 instead of 40, according to Kiwamu).
2. Mode matching to both arms are ~90%(see #6859), but PRC has terrible mode.
Clipping/flipping in PRC?
3. From cameras, beam spot moves so much when PRMI is locked.
Alignment? Mirrors(especially PR2/3) moves too much?
4. Error signals are glitchy when PRMI is locked.
Servo design? Mirrors moves too much?
What we have learned from the vent:
1. PRM, PR2, PR3 was not flipped.
2. Their suspensions looked OK, too.
3. We noticed clipping at BS and Faraday. They must be avoided when tip-tilts are installed on next vent.
4. Took useful photos for next vent. Positions of green optics on optical layout CAD must be updated.
5. It is not so difficult to recover the IFO state after cycling the vacuum if we use attenuator setup using PBS (see elog #6892). But, of course, we need plans before cycling.
Commissioning Plan:
- measure PRMI power recycling gain from POP
- FPMI using ALS
- measure PRFPMI power recycling gain from TRY/X
- correlation between beam spot motion at POP camera and glitch
- correlation between PR2/PR3 motion and glitch (how can we measure PR2/3 motion? set up oplevs?)
- mode scan for PRC, using AS AUX laser
- beam profile measurement at REFL,POP
- refine servo design of MICH and PRCL |

Jenne | Bureaucracy | Auxiliary locking | Yend table upgrade - fast track? | In light of the Yend auxiliary laser's ill health, I think we should reconsider the possibility of changing out the Yend laser table next week.
My thinking here is that if whatever the new mode matching solution is for a replacement laser (Tara has borrowed our spare NPRO that used to sit on top of the fridge, or we could take Annalisa's) requires a rework of the table layout, we might as well put the new layout onto the new table. So, we need to figure out what laser we will put in as the new Ygreen, and what it's waist looks like. If it just requires a small movement of existing lenses or new lenses in similar positions to the current ones, we can keep living with our current table. But, if the mode matching solution requires enough changes to distances / lens placement / whatever, we should think seriously about putting in the new table next week.
Here's what I would like to see happen on / before Monday:
Annalisa - Mode matching solution for new laser. If we get the laser back from Tara, this will involve first measuring the waist, otherwise we already know the waist of the ABSL laser that Annalisa is currently using.
Annalisa and Steve - Find optics for new mode matching in the lab, or order them by Monday afternoon.
Manasa - List of every screw, washer, optic, mount, etc. that will go on the new Y end table, with a notation as to whether or not we have it in-hand, and if not, what needs to happen before we do. Also, for things that we don't have, I'd like to see a summary of temporary solutions (e.g. keep using current mount for doubling crystal while new one is being machined).
Manasa / Annalisa / Koji - will the new mode matching solution fit within the existing layout, or do we need to redo the table layout? |
