The fire alarm test was completed at 13:30 yesterday.
I updated the 40M Emergency Calling List by replacing Rob by Yoichy. The calling order: Vass, Aso and Taylor.
Rana and Yoichy were added to the "Registered PSL Operator List" and posted it in the lab. (not in the document, that should be up dated)
We are getting ready for the annual safety audit. It will be held next week at 14:00 Friday, Feb 13, 2009
Please participate in the preparation by correcting it or just tell me.

Osamu and Kiwamu received 40m safety training on Thursday, Feb 19, 2009
The 40m lab specific safety training is done. The participants were
Stephanie Erickson, Clara Bennett, Chris Zimmerman, Zach Commings, Michelle Stephen surfs and Drew Cappel postock.
They have already went through the Caltech Safety Office laser and general safety training.
They still have to read, understand and sign the the SOP for the laser & lab
Kevin Vigue, our high school summer student went through the 40m specific safety traning yesterday.
You said that the use of FAXST was forbidden for phds and graduate students. I had to swear on the promise of not ever buying an other FAXST
We lost our key to the Lightwave 125/6-OPN-PS The key shop just made one look a like that works.
The 40m safety audit will be at Wednesday afternoon, March 3
Please participate getting our lab to inspection grade safety level.
The 40m's new undergrad Kevin Kuns was introduced to 40m safety hazards. He is new and needs guidance as specially with 2W laser work.
Peter King will train him on Friday to LIGO-laser standard.
I borrowed the Olympus and forgot to leave a note - I should have it for at most a day. dmassey@ligo if you need it urgently
Larry stopped by today and had to disconnect the m25 machine (this is the 1st GC machine on the left as you walk into the control room) because its IP was conflicting with a machine over in Downs. Do not use 18.104.22.168 as the IP on this machine as this is already assigned to someone else. They couldn't figure out the root password to change it which is why it is not currently plugged into the network, and is not to be until an appropriate IP is assigned.
They've asked that whoever set the machine up to please contact them (extension 2974).
Our visiting graduate student Yuta Michimura received 40m specific basic safety training today.
Our new undergrad Joonho Lee received 40m specific basic safety training yesterday.
Yuta and Joonho are scheduled to participate in the LIGO-laser safety tutelage with Peter K on Oct 12
Yuta, Joonho, and Suresh received the Basic Laser Safety Training from Peter King today.
Now, we got homework.
Our new postdoc Suresh Doravari received 40m specific safety training last week.
Please remember to cover the optical tables !
40m wiki seems to have been down for quite a while now but I can't see any info in the elog about it. Is there some ongoing problem?
There was an email from Dave Barker about this. They had to reorganize the DNS at LHO. The URL that should be used is: http://blue.ligo-wa.caltech.edu:8000/40m
Nope. I know I had the right address, and it was down for me too all weekend. It's better now though. blue.ligo-wa.caltech.edu was up though.
Thanks Jamie, I've updated the links from the ATF wiki to reflect this.
Whenever you modify any of the front-end code in /opt/rtds/caltech/c1/userapps, such as models, scripts or medm screens, REMEMBER TO COMMIT YOUR CHANGES, WITH A LOG MESSAGE!!!
svn commit path/to/modified/file
If you forget to commit things, they may be purged and you will loose your work. ALWAYS COMMIT!
Things to note and watch out for:
If you have questions ASK. Don't force things.
Also, remember to update the svn working copy before you begin doing any work, to make sure you're working on the most recent version:
The manual instructions on the 40m wiki for restarting wouldn't work. I killed the process okay, but then I got an error saying it "couldn't bind to port 8080, please try again using -p to select port". The automated script worked though.
Mess in the lab is increasing. Kiwamu and I had to clean up some stuffs to continue our work.
(i.e. some components were disturbing to open the lid of the tables.)
Basically the tools/equipments/component/cables/digital cameras/lens caps/IR viewers
you have used for the day should be cleaned up at the end of the day.
If one likes to leave a temporary stuff, leave a note to indicate by whom, for what, how long
it will be kept like that, and when one is going to back there with contact info like the cell phone #.
Elog went nonreponsive. SSH'ed into nodus to run restart script. Elog came back ~15 minutes later.
JA - MIE - RO!
Bob, Callum and Daphen noted that our keeping a JDSU HeNe (max power <4mW) is against somebody's SOP. So I cleared everything that relates to 40m SOS suspending to the bottom shelf of the 2nd cabinet in the cleanroom (the back set of cabinets nearest the flow benches). The door has a nifty label. Things that are in there include:
QPD and micrometer mount
microscope and micrometer mount
Al beam block
Magnet gluing fixture
dumbbell gluing fixture
The electronics that we use (HeNe's power supply, 'scope, QPD readout) are still on the roll-y thing under the flow bench.
