Crane balancing at the south end is continuing today.

The crane I -beam now leveled at all degrees of rotation.  The lower hinge was moved southward  about 1/4 of an inch.  Performance was tested at 2000 lbs

I hooked up interlock to the Innolight 2W 1064 nm in the enclosure. The manual shutter  is closed on this unit.

I played with the particle counter this morning. Now it's running and reading the correct numbers on the old COCHECKLIST.adl medm screen.

However, it can not be seen with dataviewer.

Innolight 2W 1064nm main laser was turned off for more enclosure related work.

The electrician re rooting the power- conduit to the interlock under the floor and bring it through the new concrete tunnel.

Emergency laser power shut off switch was tested at entry door 104M.  It worked fine.

No laser glasses required. Laser will be turned back on around 11 am today.

 The laser is turned on. Injection current set to 0.871A.

Actually some one turned the  laser  off last night and did  not enter it into the elog ! Burned toast award is granted !

I turned off/on the power to the accelerometers in order to re rout their connections. I found cable connector body-nut  #3 loose to Accelerometer 2X This connector should be checked for solid performance.

Cleaned up cables on the top and bottom. Vacuumed both areas. We still have some remaining shading from the MOPA umbilical and more unknown BNC cables hanging around.

The PSL out  2" OD beam guide tube was cut  1.5" shorter to 13.5"

The 10" OD  0.25" wall Al tube was replaced by a  lighter, not anodized and thinner  wall 0.094" tube of 15.5" lenght, that is 0.75" shorter.

The new position of the PSL table made these cuts necessary.

The vertex crane drive is overheating, it stopped functioning. Service man will be here tomorrow morning.

I crane was just turned  on for for may be  about 5 minutes. The vertical drive was fine for a while, but the horizontal did not worked at all.

The crane is tagged out again and the controller box is cooling down.

            Module CCES-407 1HP 2.3A 460V/3 phase on the right was replaced. Speed was increased  to 30 Hz

Atm2, See burned insulation on black wire that was shorting to the large suppressor resistor on Atm3 One can see the pit marks on the right end of it.

        This large power dissipater resistor got hot as the malfunctioning controller 407 broke down.   Touching black power wire insulation melted and made a short.

          So the heat was created and finally the fuses were blown. The unnecessary large fuses were replaced by small ones.

Fortunately we had one spare controller on hand that made this repair to be done fast.

We used the new Crane Safety Check list  from LIGO-E1000379-v1 the first time yesterday before doors were removed.

The control room's north west corner smelled like propane gas  yesterday around 16:30

We all agreed that the smell was real and I called the safety office. I was told that they received 6 other calls from different parts of the campus.

The smell disappeared in about a half an hour.

Our visiting graduate student Yuta Michimura received 40m specific basic safety training today.

Accelerometers xyz were moved from IOO-south/west  corner to under PSL table. They were turned off for ~20 minutes.

Guralp was also moved eastward about 2 ft. It is not leveled.

This is part of the preparation to remove access connector.

The 2 W Innolight shutter is closed and enclosure door removed. Beam path blocked. Do not change this condition.

The PSL output beam guide was upgraded from 2" to 8" OD . It is green ready. Shutter is open.

Prof Alan Weistein guided the 24 student through the 40m. His performance was rated as  an enthusiastic 9.5

Innolight PSL laser is set to @2.1A , ~1.6W output ! Please scan out when finished! 

The output monitoring pick up window W2-LW-2-2050-UV-1064-45S is in place. IOO_ANG_OPD and IOO_POS_QPD roughly aligned.

The PMC alignment and/ or mode matching is bad. PMC reflected is 50%, throughput 600mW

I'm cleaning out to make room for our new optical cabinet. Are we keeping these? There are  ~20  pieces of 10" od 1" wide tapes and large number of cassettes.

Alan suggested to save data of Bruce Allen paper of observation of binary neutron stars in the 40m on 1994 November 14-20 and save back up tapes of his period in the 40m.

Fire-smoke sensors in the vertex area #2-31, 2-30 east, 2-32 south/MC2 and 2-37 old control room area are turned off to accommodate the welding

activity of folding crane. These sensors will be reactivated at 3:30pm today.

Pedro of the electrical shop helped to retrace wires from the racks to the breakers. Many wrong labels were replaced. These labels are  still representing                          the south arm as Y and  the east arm as X.

Racks: 1X1,2,3,4 and 1Y3,4,5,6,7 and 9 are connected through manual disconnect swithes to  AC power breaker PC-1 on the west wall of IFO room 104.

             This panel PC-1 is connected to T1 isolation transformer in room 101 Panel L - # 38, 40, 42

Racks: 1Y1 & 2  psl and mc are connected through manual disconnect switches to AC power breaker PC-2 just west of the psl enclosure.

             This panel is connected to T2 isolation transformer in room 101 Panel L - # 32, 34, 36

Our new postdoc Suresh Doravari received 40m specific safety training last week.

The south end of IFO room 104 was reshuffled. The flow bench was moved all the way to the south end to create more room for the crane reach. The old  large drawing cabinet  was moved under the vacuum tube.

The new clear view through  Acrylic-plexyglass cabinet is anchored. It has powder finished coating so it will not out-gas too much.The back side shelf mounting holes are sealed off with kapton tape. The doors still needs some gaskit seals.

The beam scanner is back from repair.  Koji and Suresh helped to move the I/O address jumpers on the interface card from default position  300 to 320

It is working again.

Physical Electronics: Vac-Seal #288-6000 arriving Monday. Our last bag used last week had a p/n 1002003 with expiration date   .....2009 ? and it was stored in the

refrigerator all times. We are getting 68 small bags.

We should have precision gluing notes of epoxies/procedures used on our sus upgrade.

This condition is created when we run out of nitrogen that holds the valves in set positions. The Maglev and other turbos are still running in this configuration so one has to pay attention that the foreline valves are open.

Reset  error message on vacuum screen and opened V4 & V5 at 3pm today.

• Check EQ-stops
• clamp down counter weights
• check other components are clamped
• remove all tools
• check cabling is not is not shorting out seismic stack or blocking beam
• confirm well centered spots on mirrors

Slow pumpdown of rebuilt IFO-mark4 started at 3pm today.

We are at 680Torr at this minute with 1.5 Torr/min speed.

We have reached 200 Torr at 12 hours of slow pumping speed. Kiwamu stopped the pumping for 11 hrs last night .and I restarted it this morning.

Now RV1 is fully open with butterfly valve in place  and the second roughing  pump RP3 was just turned on.

How to stop pumping:

1,  close RV1 manual valve with torque wheel

2, close V3

3, turn off roughing pumps RP1 & RP3

4, disconnect metal hose connection to butterfly valve

The pump down continued this morning by the removal of the butterfly valve. Two roughing pumps were used to reach 500 mTorr

The Maglev monitoring MEDM screen "Rotating" indicator is not working. It is on all times. Please look at Maglev controller monitor for real information.

Pump down is completed.           

Configuration: vacuum normal after 86 days at atm               CC1 = 1e-5 Torr                  

                      IFO is hungry for light (and maybe some goulash with a little paprikash too)

The Watec 902, 1/2" CCD camera got new Tamron lens: 1/2" 10-40mm F/1.4  manual iris. IR corrective lens. It is designed to have the same focal point in the IR as

in the visible light range. However, as the depth of field in the IR range is very narrow, focus adjustment should be done carefully in the IR.

Now you can see the sus tower that will make alignment easier.

Joe updated the rga procedure in the wiki and we turned on the filament. It will take a few days to reach thermal equilibrium.

TP2 dry fore pump was replaced at 910mTorr

The crane people are here. The Vertex chambers are covered with plastic. The PSL HEPAs will be running on high during the day.

It is going to be disturbingly noisy and dirty during the day. Please try start working in the evening if it can not wait till next week.

I blocked the  AP table's south west 10" ID port since it is obsolete with the new layout.

Reminder: items on the enclosure self can fall down in an earthquake. I moved oscilloscope and heavy calorimeter head from the edge of the cliff.

The air condition was off for the south arm. I  turned it on.
