PRM oplev beam was not hitting on the QPD since Jun 1, so I centered it. I reverted the oplev servo gains and now oplev servo looks fine.

There's SIDE to UL/UR/LL/LR coil element in PRM TO_COIL matrix. They were 0 until Mar 31, 2012, but someone changed them to -0.160. I couldn't find elog about it.
Same thing happened to BS on Mar 13, 2012 (see elog #6409), so I think somebody did the same thing to PRM.

I centetered PRM oplev, lowered gain and PRM oplev servo is not oscillating any more.
It is OK for more than a softball practice.

  Oplev Pitch: gain ~ 12 at 0.69 Hz resonance

  I adjusted the gain so that oplev damps resonance as much as possible, but not introduce additional noise. I did no calculation, but just measured OSEM spectra (SUSPIT and SUSYAW). Below, you can see the noise reduces at resonance when oplev servo is on, and not increasing at other frequencies. It was introducing noise before. Someone should do more systematic adjustment of oplev servos for all the optics.

Below is angular spectra of every suspended core optics.
As you can see, there's a peak at 3.3 Hz for BS and PRM angular motion. Compared with other optics, they look large.

I briefly checked suspension filters and found that BounceRoll filters and f2a filters are not turned on for BS.
I checked elog and there was no reason for them to be off, so I turned them on. It didn't change angular spectra very much, though.

I'm going to check BS suspension damping and see where 3.3 Hz peak comes from.

Note that oplev quadrant sums are different for every optics, so we can't simply compare angular motion between optics from OLPIT/OLYAW. But for OSEMs, there are "cnt2um" which calibrate sensor outputs into um. and input matrix should be normalized, so we can compare SUSPIT/SUSYAW with other optics.

I centered all oplevs to do this measurement.

Here's summary what happened to oplev since then.
Someone changed oplev filters and gain. I couldn't find elog about it. Does anyone know?

Oplev servo openloop transfer functions:
  In Feb 2012, gains were adjusted and filter settings are recorded by Steve.
  For all pitch OLTF, see elog #6309.
  For all yaw OLTF, see elog #6323.

  All the filters in Feb is listed in elog #6744.
  Filters now are messed up, as Jamie pointed out in elog #6743.
  Below is the current filter settings.

  I turned ELP and RLP filters on, which wasn't on to cut-off noises at higher frequencies.
  I left resonant gains of ETMs because I don't know what they are for.
  I put ELP35 for ITMs, BS, PRM and SRM. I put RLP80 for BS, PRM and SRM.
  I will leave ELP35 off for BS and SRM because they oscillate currently. ELP50 and ELP40 is on for a substitution. I will readjust them soon.

  I don't know who changed all gains (except for PRM, which I adjusted in elog #6952). It doen't look like it is because of change in quadrant sum.
  I also don't know who deleted 3.3 Hz resonant gain for BS.

  I put all similar filters in same place to make it organized. Now, basic fitlers are organized. We may need some resonant gains for each optics.

I tried to reduce BS 3.3 Hz motion with local damping. 3.3 Hz probably comes from the stack, but I want to reduce this because PRMI beam spot is moving in this frequency.
I tried it by putting some resonant gains to oplev servo and OSEM damping servo, but failed.

What I learned:
  1. BS OSEM input matrix diagonalization looks impressively good. Below is the spectra of oplev pitch/yaw and OSEM pos/pit/yaw/side comparing with and without damping (REF is without). You can see mechanical resonances are well separated. Also, damping servos don't look like they are adding noise at 3.3 Hz.

  2. 3.3 Hz motion is not stationary. Amplitude is sometimes high, but sometimes low. Amplitude changes in few seconds. You can even see 3.3 Hz in the dataviewer, too.

  3. I set new oplev gains. I lowered them so that UGFs will be ~ 2.5 Hz. I turned ELP35 on.

C1:SUS-BS_OLPIT_GAIN = 0.2 (was 0.6)
C1:SUS-BS_OLPIT_GAIN = -0.2 (was -0.6)

  4. All OSEM sensors feel about the same amount of 3.3 Hz motion.

  5. OLPIT and OLYAW reduces if you put 3.3 Hz resonant gain to oplev servo, but it is maybe not true since they are in-loop error signals. You can't see the difference from OSEM sensors. Below is oplev pitch/yaw and OSEM pos/pit/yaw/side comparing with and without 3.3 Hz resonant gain (REF is without).

Somehow we got an excitation going on BS OpLevs, and even though Yuta thought he might have accidentally started it, he couldn't find where, so we couldn't stop it.

Since we don't have anything written on the wiki, I ended up calling Joe to remind me how to clear test points:

The tp clear clears all test points everywhere.  The awg clear wouldn't let me do a universal clear, so I just did #21, which is the SUS model.  So if you want to kill excitations on a specific model, you must find it's DCU ID (it's in the top right corner of the GDS status screens for each model).

 While I'm not sure what specific optic this is, I think it's an older optic.  (a) All of the new optics we got from Ramin were enscribed with their #.  (b) This optic appears to have a short arrow scribe line (about the length of the guiderod), and then no scribe line (that I could see through the glass dish) on the other side.  The new optics all have a long arrow scribe line, ~1/2 the full width of the optic, and have clear scribe lines on the opposite side.

I want to check the data from last night / the weekend to see when the mispointing happened, but dataviewer can't connect to the fb, since Jamie is still working his magic.  I'm pretty sure I restored all of the optics after Eric finished playing with MICH Friday night, but it's possible that I forgot one, I suppose.  If it wasn't me, then I'm curious when it happened.

 Good. The power density and max power are not important (especially since you don't define a quantitative way to spec them). We ONLY care about the transmission.

Simplant for ETMX was left on, so I didn't have control of ETMX.  Not cool.  The IFO should be left in it's 'regular' state (all optics restored to saved alignments, no simplant, LSC/ALS/ASS loops off) if you're not actively working on it.

What this did point out, however, is that we need a big ol' indicator on the IFO_ALIGN / LSC / Watchdog / Overview screens to indicate that simplant is on for a particular optic, or whatever simplant might be controlling that takes away 'regular' control.  I probably would have continued being frustrated and confused for a lot longer if Eric didn't mention that simplant could have been left on.  Thanks Eric!

Symptoms, which perhaps would have eventually pointed me to simplant, were that there was some weird moving beam on the AS camera that was flashing fabry-perot fringes, and the POX signal looked like junk. After some looking around, I noticed that ETMX, while it claimed to have all the damping loops on, and the oplev on, was swinging a lot (rms levels of 4 - 7, rather than the usual < 2 ).  I said something out loud, and Eric suggested looking at Simplant.  After putting Simplant back to Reality, things are back to normal.

We tracked this down to the power normalization stuff that Yoichi added over the weekend.

With a non-zero normalization factor, and a small TRX transmission, the input the XARM controller gets really big.  When XARM is then triggered, a huge impulse is sent into the SUS_ETMX_LSC input, which causes the Vio2 filter in FM0 to ring like crazy.  This probably also explains why Yoichi was seeing trouble locking the arm when the normalization is on

The solution, as Yoichi also mentions, is probably to trigger the normalization like we trigger the rest of the boost filters.

I tried to take some photos through the window of ETMX's chamber, to see if I could see any magnets.  What we have learned is that Jenne is still not the world's best photographer.  I was holding the camera at ~max zoom inside the beam tube between the table and the window, so that's my excuse for the photos being fuzzy.  The only thing that I can really conclude is that the magnets look like they are still there, but Jamie thinks they may be stuck on the PDs/LEDs (now looking at the photos myself, I agree, especially with UL and LR). 

It looks like the best thing to do at this point, since Koji already tried jerking ETMX around in yaw a little bit, is just wait and open the door, to see what's going on in there.  I posted the photos on Picasa:

I propose that, if the magnets are broken, we pull the ETM out of the camber and fix it up in the cleanroom while we pump back down.  This would restrict us from doing any Xarm work, but will force me to focus on DRMI, and we can put the ETM back when we vent to install the tip tilts.

We placed the Watek camera on the SE viewport of the ITMX chamber, and focused it on the face of PRM.  We are not able to see any scattered light transmitted through the PRM, so this camera was an ineffective way to try to check spot centering on the PRM.  Jamie placed one of the new targets on the PRM cage - see his elog for details.

To get more use of the camera, we need to mount it on something, at the 5.5 inch beam height, and then cover that something with clean foil so we can place the camera on the table, in the beamline in various places.  We also need to carefully wrap the cables in foil so the don't dirty anything inside.

The target installed on BS is wrong!  It has a center hole, instead of two 45 deg holes.  I forgot to remove it, but it will obvious it's wrong to the next person who tries to use it.  I believe we're supposed to have a correct target for BS, Steve?

The earthquake stop screws on PRM were too short and were preventing installation of the PRM target.  Therefore, in order to install the target on PRM I had to replace the earthquake stops with ones Jenne and I found in the bake lab clean room that were longer, but have little springs instead of viton inserts at the ends.  This is ok for now, but

WE NEED TO REMEMBER TO REPLACE EARTHQUAKE STOPS ON PRM WHEN WE CLOSE UP.

We checked the beam through PRM and it's a little high to the right (as viewed from behind).  Tomorrow we're going to open ITMX chamber so that we can get a closer look at the spot on PR2.

Q and I aligned the BS such that we were hitting the center of ETMX. The ETMX cage does not have OSEM setscrew holes on the front, so it is not possible to put the targets that Steve made on this optic.  So, I put the freestanding ruler in front of the optic, with the edge of the ruler at the center (as viewed from above) of the optic.  Then Eric steered the BS until we were hitting the 5.5" mark, and roughly half of the beam was obscured by the ruler.

We then aligned ITMX such that the prompt reflection was colinear with the incoming beam. 

I checked the 2 spots through the BS, heading to the AS port.  (2 spots since MICH hasn't been locked / finely aligned yet).  They were being clipped on the 2nd output PZT.  I adjusted the knobs of the first output PZT to center the spots on the 2nd PZT.  Note that the output PZTs' power is still off, and has been off for some unknown length of time.  I had found them off when prepping for the vent a week or two ago.  So the current alignment depends on them staying off.  We don't really need them on until we're ready to employ our OMC.

The beams now look nicely unclipped on the AS camera, and we're aligning MICH.

 I've installed the mirrors on 4 tip-tilts. I was able to align 3 of them in pitch, the last one has a screw with damaged thread, I'll continue with it tomorrow.

Alignment accuracy in pitch is ~0.1 mrad. Mirrors oscillate a lot probably due to air flow coming from the side wall.

I was helping Den get started in the cleanroom yesterday, and I noticed that the new active TTs, like the old passive ones, are set to be 4" from the table.  So, like the old ones, we need 1.5" risers to get the center of the mirror up to our in-vac 5.5" beam height.  I didn't see any risers in there when I was looking around. 

Steve says he still has the drawing that he gave to the shop for the old tip tilts, so he'll double check that the dimensions are the same, and then ask the shop to make 4 more.

I did TT alignment using red laser and QPD.

 I had a problem aligning TT with frame number SN-035 as some screws are damaged so all what I could move were 2 blades on the sides of the mirrors. But this was not enough to align pitch and yaw simultaneously.  It is possible to align pitch only, but then I got a huge yaw angle (~0.05-0.1 rad). The only option I had was to make a reasonable alignment in yaw and then suspend several washes on the screw on the bottom of the mirror to align pitch.

Attached are flag positions inside coils. 1 - SN034, 2 - SN012, 3 - SN006, 4 - SN035. For each TT there are 4 pictures with flag 1-4: UL, LL, UR, LR

Atm1,  TT 1.5" high adaptor base will be back from the shop in 10 days.

Atm2,  There is no PITCH damping, YAW edie current damping works well at 0.5 mm gap

Atm3,  Adjustable Al -disc that contains a small magnet is purely designed.

We have to come up with a solution to have damping in PITCH

The spot size reduction require similar layout as ETMX oplev.

This may be cause by the impact of crazy WFS signal after the lock loss.
The auto locker is not fast enough to shut the WFS down before the mirrors are kicked.

Jenne and I discussed the issue and agreed that this can be solved by implementing
the same triggering algorithm as the LSC triggers.

Give us a bit more time to work on this.

One terrible concern of mine is that the slow machines were rebooted at the power interruption.
Based on the elog entries, I assume they have not been burtrestored...

If this is true, they may cause some weird behaviors of the PSL/IOO electronics.
