You can see that there are still some funny peaks between Pit and Yaw, but I finnessed the peak-finding, and I was able to fit all of the correct peaks, and invert the matrix:

The free swinging spectra of ETMY and ITMX were taken after today's wiping, in order to check the test masses.

These data were taken under the atmospheric pressure condition, as well as the spectra of ETMX taken yesterday.

Compared with the past (see Yoichi's  good summary in Aug.7 2008), there are no significant difference.

There are nothing wrong with the ETMY and ITMX successfully.

By the way I found a trend, which can be seen in all of the data taken today and yesterday.

The resonances of pitch and yaw around 0.5Hz look like being damped, because their height from the floor become lower than the past.

I don't know what goes on, but it is interesting because you can see the trend in all of the data.

Where is the plot for the trend?
It can be either something very important or just a daydream of you.
We can't say anything before we see the data.

We like to see it if you think this is interesting.

... Just a naive guess: Is it just because the seismic level got quiet in the night?

 

P.S.

You looks consistently confused some words like damping, Q, and peak height.

  • Q is defined by the transfer function of the system (= pendulum).
     
  • Damping (either active or passive) makes the Q lower.
     
  • The peak height of the resonance in the spectrum dy is determined by the disturbance dx and the transfer function H (=y/x).

dy = H dx

As the damping makes the Q lower, the peak height also gets lowered by the damping.
But if the disturbance gets smaller, the peak height can become small even without any change of the damping and the Q.

I used scripts/SUS/freeswing-all.csh to give the optics a kick and then turn off their watchdogs and collect the free swinging data.  Final script end time = 993173551. Start taking data ~ 993173751

I had to fix up the script a little: it had amateur stuff in there, such as undefined variables.

It still doesn't work that well. On the new Ubuntu workstations, pianosa, it fails by just not setting some of the EPICS variables using the EZCA stuff.

On Allegra, it failed on ~1 out of 10 commands by returning "epicsThreadOnce0sd epicsMutexLock failed" ???

On Pianosa, it sometimes says, instead, "epicsThreadOnceOsd: pthread_mutex_lock returned Invalid argument.".   Ah...now I understand?

So finally, I had to run the script on op340m to get it to actually run all of its commands. That's right; I used a 15 year old Solaris 9 Blade 150 because none of our fancy new Linux machines could do the job reliably.

Fixing our EZCA situation is a pretty high priority; if the locking scripts fail to run ~1 command every hour its going to completely derail the lock acquisition attempts.

If you want to use the IFO tonight, just run the script again on op340m again when you're done.

I mounted the frames directory on mafalda and linux3. It's intentionally not listed in the /etc/fstab so that an fb crash won't prevent the controls machines from booting. The command to mount the frames directory is:

There seems to be something strange going on with the 40m frame builder.
Specifically, there is a gap in the frames in /frames/full near the start of
each 100k second subdirectory. For example, frames for the following times are missing:

To summarize, after writing the first two frames in a data directory, the next ~10 minutes of frames are usually missing. To make matters worse (for
the nds2 frame finder, at least) the first frame after the gap (and all successive frames) start at an arbitrary time, usually not aligned to a 16-second boundary. Is there something about the change of directories that is causing the frame builder to crash? Or is the platform/cache disk too slow to complete the directory switch-over without loss of data?

So the framebuilder/daqd frame writing issue seems to have been a transient one.  Alex said he tried enabling frame writing manually and it worked fine, so I tried re-enabling the frame writing config lines and sure enough it worked fine.  So it's a mystery.  Alex said the "main profiler warning" lines tend to show up when data is backed up in the buffer, although he didn't explain why exactly that would have been the issue here.

The framebuilder is back online now, minus it's symmetricom GPS card.  The card seems to have failed entirely, and was not able to be made to work at downs either.  It has been entirely removed from fb.

As a fall back, the system has been made to work off of the system NTP-based time synchronization.  The latest symmetricom driver, which is part of the RCG 2.4 branch, will fall back to using local time if the GPS synchronization fails.  The new driver was compiled from our local checkout of the 2.4 source in the new to-be-used-in-the-future rtscore directory:

We'll have to keep an eye on the system, to see that it continues to record data properly, and that the fb and the front-ends remain in sync.

The question now is what do we do moving forward.  CDS is not supporting the symmetricom cards anymore, and have moved to using Spectracom GPS/IRIG-B cards.  However, Downs has neither at the moment.  Even if we get a new Spectracom card, it might not work in this older Sun hardware, in which case we might need to consider upgrading the framebuilder to a new machine (one supported by CDS).

We found one of DAC cables had a poor contact.
That probably caused our too much "tilt" of the beam into MC.

Story:
  From the previous A2L measurement and MC aligning, we found that the beam is somehow vertically "tilted" so much.
  We started to check the table leveling and the beam height and they looked reasonable.
  So, we proceeded to check coil balancings using optical levers.
  During the setup of optical levers, I noticed that VMon for MC1_ULCOIL was always showing -0.004 even if I put excitation to coils.
  It was because one of the DAC cables(labeled CAB_1Y4_88) had a poor contact.
  If I push it really hard, it is ok. But maybe we'd better replace the cable.

What caused a poor connection?:
  I don't know.
  A month ago, we checked that they are connected, but things change.

How to prevent it:
  I made a python script that automatically checks if 4 coils are connected or not using C1:IOO_LOCKIN oscillator.
  It is /cvs/cds/caltech/users/yuta/scripts/coilchecker.py.
  It turns off all 3 coils except for the one looking at, and see the difference between oscillation is on and off.
  The difference can be seen by demodulating SUSPOS signal by oscillating frequency.
  If I intentionally unplug CAB_1Y4_88, the result output for MC1 will be;

There were the guys who used the PENTEK 40pin connectors into the IDC 40pin connectors.
Those connectors are not compatible at all.

==> We replaced the connectors on the cables from DAC to IDC adapters to the dewhitening board for the vertex SUSs.

In addition, I found one of the Binary OUT IDC50pin connector has no clamp.

 Last night I found that the response of ITMX against the angle offsets were strage.

Eventually I found a loose connection at the feedthrough connectors of ITMX chamber.

 

So I pushed the connector hard, and then ITMX successfully became normal.

It looked like someone had accidentally kicked the cable during some works.

This bad connection had made unacceptable offsets in the OSEM readout, but now they seem fine.

 I've checked foton files for small numbers. There are several other filters besides "Cheby" that are presented with small numbers. For example, "BTW0.01" in the LOCKING_Q, LOCKING_I modules,  "SeisDaytime"  in the SUP_MC3_SP_NOISE and others. The output of the commands is presented below.

 It appears that foton does not like the unstable poles, which we need to model the transfer functions.

But one can try to load the filters into the front end by generating the filter file e.g.:

The foreline pressure is 13 mTorr after 8 hrs of running, TP3: 50K rpm, 0.14 Amp with all annuloses pumped.

The annulos pressures are 0.3 - 5 mtorr

This morning (~0100) I started to redo some of the wiring in the rack with the FB in it. This was in an effort to activate the new Megatron (Sun Fire 4600) which we got from Rolf.

Its sitting right above the Frame Builder (FB). The fibers in there are a rats nest. Someone needs to team up with Joe to neaten up the cabling in that rack - its a mini-disaster.

While fooling around in there I most probably disturbed something, leading to the FB troubles today.

This box was made  to provide good thermal stability for seismometer calibration. There is an inner solid shell of 0.064" Al box that is covered by 2" insulation

inside and outside. The polystyrene foam is "CertiFoam 25 SE " from McMasterCarr #9255K3.

 My bad.  I turned it off last night to see if it would help make the Xgreen more stable, and then when I woke up this morning I realized that I had forgotten to turn it back on.  Bad Jenne.
